The mission is accomplished through hosting a variety of educational retreats and providing residential integration for those experiencing spiritual emergence. Members may also participate in ceremonies using natural entheogenic sacraments to commune with the divine.

The inspiration for the Divine Spark Foundation and the Soul Sanctuary came from Carol's experience of spiritual emergence after a profound awakening after an experience with the God Molecule, 5-MeO-DMT. Within 3 weeks her life changed dramatically, and through the support of her friends and mentors, creating art, and connecting with nature, Carol was able to integrate her experience and remember that she is a spark of the divine. Now she is on a mission to fulfill her life’s purpose of helping others remember they are sparks too. 

Spiritual emergent states can also be referred to as spiritual awakening or spiritual emergencies. In spite of being openings for profound insight and healing, these states are often labeled as psychosis and believed to only be treatable with pharmaceutical drugs by the allopathic medical model. At the Soul Sanctuary, these states are seen as gifts and opportunities for growth with the right care. These types of expanded states can be initiated by Kundalini Awakening, stressful life events, or through spiritual openings provided by the use of psychedelic medicines.
